On Friday, May 4, 2012 at 8:00 PM, St. Xavier High School in Louisville, KY will be once again hosting the 3rd annual running of the Kentucky Dream Mile (specific meet information below) for Kentucky’s elite boys and girls milers. The Kentucky Dream Mile is unique in that it is a track meet with only two events.

The purpose of the event is to bring together, on one night and at one venue, the most elite high school milers from throughout the state, under the most optimal of conditions, at a time of the season to produce times worthy of national recognition.  No classes or categories, just the best of the best based on times run this season alone.

The qualifying standards are high, but that is in the hopes of enabling the most talented Kentucky distance athletes to achieve, as a group, what many outside of Kentucky feel isn’t within our state’s level of ability – to have several of our elite runners reach a national standard of excellence.  In Kentucky, we currently have TEN boys who have run under 4:25 and an unbelievable NINETEEN girls who have run under the 5:20 race standard this season. Every one of these outstanding athletes will be in these two races at St. X on Friday.

Led by Holy Cross junior standout, Jacob Thomson (4:10 just last Saturday) we feel certain a sub-4:10 mile and several sub-4:17s (the national first-team elite standard) are within our participants’ grasp under these optimal conditions.  On the girls' side, Assumption sophomore, Katherine Receveur (4:56 last Saturday as well) will lead an all-out assault on a sub-5:00 mile with several others shooting to join the sub-5:00 ranks with her.  Attached is the full list of those competing; their grade, school and best time this season.
